Electric in Toronto. I want to tell you is not about electrical Toronto. Originally the name of «Toronto» wore at the end of the XVII century the area near the Northern shores of lake Ontario and without clear boundaries. It is not known exactly, what means this name. On the two most popular theories it either happened from the Indians Vendetta as «the meeting place», or from the language of the Mohawk, in which «toronto» means, «a place where the trees grow out of the water». In the XVIII century in this area lived Iroquois, Seneca and Missisagi, which, however did not have the sedentary settlements, and moved around the great lakes. In 1788, the British bought about 1000 sq. km. of land and 29 July 1793, Governor John Cimko chose Toronto as the place for the capital of Upper Canada. After this, on the place of modern Toronto developed the city of York, which began near the Toronto Islands and upset in the country’s interior. In 1834, the city was renamed in Toronto and its mayor became William Mackenzie. The main events of the uprising of Upper Canada have taken place with his participation in Toronto in 1837.
